“The &phemeral necessity”

 

Dear reader,

people like me who come out from the humanities faculties prepare themselves to jobs defined USELESS from 98% of the population: we do not save lives as doctors, nor build houses such as architects or engineers, we don’t remove criminals from the streets as the lawyers do (should do). We take care of the ephemeral.

 

But, my dear reader,

 

Imagine yourself returning home, tired, exhausted after a day busy of commitments and responsibilities. You take your car and … NO RADIO, no mp3, mp4, CD, or tapes: NOTHING. You look around, the city or country streets and … NO ADVERTISING , there are only road signs with surprisingly long red traffic lights. So, bored, you keep driving and eventually you go home. You would  like to relax a bit ‘,but ..NO TV, DVD, NOTHING, no trashy programs but not even topical, information, entertainment. Your kids are screaming and clamouring because they have no cartoons or fairy tales, or animated movies: NOTHING.

 

And you cannot even read a tale for them because … NO BOOKS !!!! Of any kind! So you think to use the computer, buuut the are NO VIDEO. NO PICTURES. NO PHOTOS. NO MUSIC. NO POETRY. ANYTHING.

And they cry and you’re tired, so tired that  you are not even ableable to think, so you  put them in the car, carrying them around the city but … NO CINEMA or THEATRES: NOTHING, NO MUSEUMS, EXHIBITIONS and CONCERTS …

No soundtracks, emotions, only the greyness of your routine!

And do you know why my dear reader?

Because artists, workers of culture and show runners , no longer exist.

Humanities Faculty are abolished ,  no funds for us ..we are USELESS! we do not save lives as doctors, nor build houses such as architects or engineers, we do not we remove criminals from the streets as lawyers do (or should do).

98% of the population is right, you cannot save on health or on scientific research. You must save on art, culture.
Everyone can survive without it.

But I yell at you, dear 98% that we are not B series people: we are the ones who make you enjoy with entertainment, who make you reflect, get indignant, get angry, relax, love, be touched, THINK .. we deal with something FUNDAMENTAL: COMMUNICATION !!!!

And to do that we need to study (a lot!), to understand humanity in all facets and to have the means to meet your needs.

It is not jus about inspiration, it’s hard work, sweat of the brow, technique, time.

No no, I’m not ironic nor sarcastic! I REALLY believe that you can survive without us!!! we are the creators of the ephemeral!

But the question is, my dear reader, …

WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN A WORLD LIKE THAT????

 

MUSIC, SINGING, DANCING, CINEMA, ART, PHOTOS, POETRY, LITERATURE, ADVERTISING , INFORMATION, THEATER are our CULTURE, mark our IDENTITY.

We must defend them !!!!

 

We must defend the Humanities Faculty.
