“London is a bad habit one hates to lose.”

I miss it so so much, because over the years it had become a secure destination, with its powerful smells and the accent that makes me fall in love with every citizen, with its old monuments and new architecture, with its breakfast which for me is a lunch and dinner which for me is a snack. With its illogical schedules, the people always running, endless queues, tea.

Through The Mirror

It is the city of Harry Potter, Alice, Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes, so despite the brexit, the political behavior to Italy during the emergency, and the snobbery, I will love London forever and unconditionally.

London is a gothic and sinister city, but it’s also warm and welcoming. What always strikes me about London is the sun.

Because for years, thanks to literature, films, TV series, the stories of those who had been there, I had imagined this city…

“Thirty-three theories and no certainty”

“The division between past, present and future has only the value of an obstinate illusion”

Through The Mirror

Accustomed to American, English and more rarely Italian TV series, I must say that the idea of a German product did not thrill me … especially given the previous ones such as “Derrik” or “A case for two”. But, it must have been the choice of the soundtrack[1]., the plot[2], the continuous comparisons with LOST, or simple curiosity, I gave in. I prepared frankfurters and sauerkraut * to get in the mood, I uncorked an EKU 28, and I spread out on the sofa bed with the first episode of DARK[3].

And then the second one, and then the third one and then the fourth one….

Only at 3 in the morning, when my eyes were asking for mercy, I managed to detach myself from this psychedelic drama of a thousand mysteries!

Time travel. Trivially I could say that the main theme is this…

“Murders and Religion: always a winning combination”

My favorite character is Leonard Finch (Al Weaver), a young homosexual curate – at a time when he still would have gone to jail for it! – who is sent to serve alongside Chambers. Leonard in addition to representing that shred of simplicity and fear of God that will guide his superior in his searches, is also the mirror of all the unfortunates who combine all kinds of things and who like it or not always get into a sea of troubles, troubles which obviously delight the viewer and make the other characters impatient.

“Roads are for enjoying the journey, not for reaching your destination”

Before a global pandemic locked all of us into the houses, sometimes the need to travel was so urgent that instead of organizing, planning, choosing every detail of what to see when and how, my two best friends and I decided to let fate choose. Or rather at the web site flykube[1] . Having determined … Continua a leggere “Roads are for enjoying the journey, not for reaching your destination”

“Scent of Ireland”

Rizzoli & Isles smells like home, has the taste of Sunday evening with the family in front of the fireplace (to have it!) it has the sound of joy and talk in the background. The jingle is explained by the origins of the Rizzoli family: a hydraulic father, a housewife mother, three children, two policemen and a criminal, emigrated from Ireland a few generations before, but still keeping the traditions high, and I think it’s right for us to approach the TV series in the best way, preparing a typical dish: the stew in beer!

Through The Mirror

A few winters ago, on a Sunday get together with the whole family around the table for dinner, whether unsure to eat something or settle for the 14 courses of lunch, my attention was recalled by a strange background music. A characteristically Irish melody, which immediately puts joy and good humour and desire for Guinness.

It’s I’m Shipping Up to Boston, says Shazam[1], and is introducing a new crime TV series, which continues to be one of the few series that I watch in Italian with the entire family, “Rizzoli & Isles”.

The protagonists are two very different women: Maura Isles – legal doctor played by Sasha Alexander, and Jane Rizzoli – homicide investigator with the face that never gets old Angie Harmon (try to watch her in “Law & Order” or “The homicides “, she has not aged a day!).

“Castle, Pizza and Beer”

It’s not the classic TV crime series because the murder, it’s just a pretext to plunge into the life of Castle and Beckett, and for a fast pace, or for jokes and weird theories, which instill good humor in the spectator. Another very funny peculiarity is that in bookstores you can find the “real” novels[2] of Richard Castle, Nathan Fillion – the actor who plays the protagonist – said that the author of the novels appears in the episode in which the new book is presented, so it is rumored that it is Tom Straw, screenwriter and sit-com author, but there is no official confirmation

I know, conventionally, people on Saturday night go out, but – excluding the nights of the shows – when it becomes cold (so from October to March more or less) I prefer to dedicate Friday to social life and on Saturday to burrow myself under a blanket, with pizza *! I wait the all week to be able to enjoy pizza on Saturday, it is now a habit and when it is violated due to force majeure, I get a big sadness.

tumblr_mzetbo8qbk1s30a57o1_500For years I have been associating pizza with beer[1], and at the pizza and beer night, I associate Castle because in the Italian programming, it is always showed in the early evening that day.

“London Calling: Cormoran Strike’s Trilogy”

No more a trilogy… still a pleasure!

Through The Mirror

la-trilogia-di-cormoran-strike Graphic by: Federica

London is one of my favourite cities in the world. I’ve been there 9 times, I visited the city in all seasons, I’ve even lived there for a while: I saw London in the October’s fog, under the January’s snow, in the August’s rain and the June’s heat.

I explored the tourist area and that of those who live there, I’ve been in the rich and poor neighborhoods.

I fell in love with the accents of the inhabitants and the perennially autumn colours, I was able to adapt to the foreign food, but not to the low temperatures.

It has not always been like that, in fact the first time I went there it was to study English, I was in one of those summer groups organized by my father’s work. An opportunity to make new friends more than anything else.

I didn’t think I would be…
