“Spy hunter”

Unlike other series that I watched in one breath, I distributed Homeland in the various long, cold, dark winters, with a maximum of three episodes a week, because the topics covered are still a weak point for me, too painful comparison with reality. –

To whom we have to trust, we ask ourselves questions in Homeland. Of the war hero believed dead in Iraq, found and released after years of imprisonment, who has perhaps become, in the meantime, an Al Qaeda spy? Or the only CIA agent who suspects the threat, but who, at the same time, exceeds with the use of drugs and seems to have some misplaced wheels?

In your opinion, having read some of my articles, what attracted me to “Homeland”? The “spy hunt”? how they translated the title in Italy? Because  

I have always been fascinated by the CIA? For an insane desire to watch in the fictions what we unfortunately already find  in the news? – ie: that the terrorists are our neighbors, people we meet every day.

“Caccia alla Spia”

A differenza di altre serie che ho guardato tutto d’un fiato, Homeland l’ho scaglionata nei vari lunghi, freddi, bui inverni, con un massimo di tre episodi alla settimana, perché le tematiche trattate sono ancora un punto debole per me, troppo doloroso il confronto con la realtà.

A chi ci si può dare credito, ci si interroga in Homeland. All’eroe di guerra creduto morto in Iraq, rinvenuto e scarcerato dopo anni di prigionia, che forse è diventato, nel frattempo, una spia di Al Qaeda? O dell’unica agente della Cia che sospetta la minaccia, ma che, nello stesso tempo, eccede nell’uso di farmaci e sembra avere qualche rotella fuori posto?

Secondo voi, avendo letto un po’ dei miei articoli, cosa mi ha attirato di “Homeland”? La “caccia alla spia”? come in Italia[1]hanno tradotto il titolo? Perché sono sempre stata affascinata dalla CIA? Per un’insana voglia di guardare anche nella fiction quello che purtroppo già scopriamo dai telegiornali? – e cioè che i terroristi sono i nostri vicini di casa, persone che incontriamo ogni giorno.

No. O meglio, sono tutti punti a favore, ma a farmi iniziare questa serie tv è stato aver saputo…

“Three writers: One story”

And having so many genres inside, it is a novel suitable for everyone, it can excite for the poignant love story, for the mystery, for the betrayed friendship, for the inspiration that does not arrive. In an interview the author stated that with this book he aimed to get on his readers the same effect that the TV series Homeland had on him (series I will talk about!):
“You watch one episode, then another, then you start doing stupid things like watching four in a row at night so you can’t work the next day … My ambition was to achieve the same result with a book”

Perhaps 779 pages are too many, he could have cut here and there and a great thriller would have come out anyway, yes, maybe the writing is still a bit unripe and the twists and turns are abundant but too isolated towards the end.
All reproaches that are easily found around and that made Joel Dicker[2] the perfect alter ego of the protagonist of his novel: Marcus Goldman, a young and successful writer who finds himself trapped in the writer’s block after the first success. “Tre scrittori: Una storia”

In un’intervista l’autore ha affermato che con questo libro mirava a ottenere sui suoi lettori lo stesso effetto che ha avuto su di lui la serie TV Homeland :

“Vedi una puntata, poi un’altra, poi cominci a fare delle stupidaggini tipo vederne quattro di fila di notte così il giorno dopo non riesci a lavorare… La mia ambizione era ottenere lo stesso risultato con un libro”
Secondo me ci è riuscito, questo romanzo con la numerazione dei capitoli al contrario (parte dal 31 e inizia un conto alla rovescia) inizia lento, aggancia il lettore, lo intriga con pochi personaggi e un piccolo problema. Poi accelera, sempre di più, e introduce sempre più personaggi e sempre più intrighi, fino a che ormai non si può non finire!

Forse779 pagine sono troppe, poteva tagliare qua e la e sarebbe uscito comunque un ottimothriller,sì, forse la scrittura è ancora un po’ acerba e i colpi di scena sono abbondanti ma troppo isolati verso il finale.

Tutte critiche più che giuste che si trovano facilmente in giro e che hanno fatto diJoel Dicker[2]il perfetto alter ego del protagonista del suo romanzo: Marcus Goldman, giovane scrittore di successo che dopo il primo boom si ritrova intrappolato nel blocco dello scrittore. E per superarlo si rivolge al suo mentore, Harry Quebec, uno scrittore di successo diventato insegnante e che si ritrova indagato per un omicidio avvenuto più di trenta anni prima…

“Oltre a essere effimera, la gloria non è priva di conseguenze.” [3]
