Do you ever get “called” by a book? He is there, on his shelf with many others, and when you pass it is as if it were whispering “take meeeeee, read meeeeee”.

I hope so or I begin to think I am hallucinating. Or maybe it’s just the post-book effect.

Anyway, three years ago I walked past a shelf and Wulf Dorn’s “The Psychiatrist” called me, seduced me into taking it. But then for one reason or another I kept it there, on my shelf to collect dust and time, without reading it. Until this winter, on a mostly rainy afternoon, while I was arranging…

“Bets and Pop Corn”

The word “responsibility” is often used throughout the novel, both in the narrative text and in the dialogue.
But who is responsible here? The media? The murderers? Bruce? Or… the spectators?
After all, it would be enough to turn off the TV to save the lives of these people. But … will they?
And you, would you do it?

Through The Mirror

Grab some red wine, popcorn and make yourself comfortable on the sofa. We bet that I will be able to enchant you?

We live in a society where no one wants to take responsibility. A man can make mistakes, but he can always say that it is because of something else, perhaps he had a very unhappy childhood, perhaps he was influenced by the politician on duty, or by the films he watches. It’s certainly not his fault!
This is a very widespread thought and over the years I have found it in real life and in films, in TV series and books. We always try to justify evil, perhaps because the idea that someone does it knowingly, with the intention of doing harm, scares us too much. It is easier if we think that that person had no choice, was disturbed, or manipulated or unconscious of bad deeds.

“To write is a dangerous job”

When the winter storm subsided at 4 in the morning, I was only a few pages away from the conclusion. <> I wondered. I remember collapsing with the book in my hands, having had troubled dreams and that when I woke-up I had decided never to read such books again.

I finished it the next night, and didn’t keep my promise, I read about it, thriller, noir, horror; but still today Anne Walkes remains one of the most chilling women who come to visit my nights from time to time.

Through The Mirror

It’s Winter, full night, the sky has decided to come down in buckets while lightning and thunder are breaking down. A sudden drop in current almost makes me scream, I can barely keep from running into my parents’ bed as I did as a child. But it is certainly not the storm that terrifies me, it is the book that I am reading in one breath in the weak light of the lightshade in the grandparents’ house that creaks and rasps and already makes me anxious. I started the book a few hours earlier, but I can’t get away from it, despite the cold, the sleep, the anguish that is rising up page after page.

I had already read Stephen King’s novels, but usually given the eternal description of every detail, even the most useless, I never found myself anxious  Not even when I read IT, except in a couple…

“The Fitzek’s Therapy (with Chocolate)”

if you want a relaxing and sweet novel, you can stop reading this post, because Therapy is exactly the opposite, it is one of those books that insinuate themselves in the mind even during the day, and that start to show you strange things.
Maybe I loved it because of this (in)natural skill to make itself real despite the plot was going to complicate more and more towards the unreal.

Through The Mirror

My friends and I for some years have got into the habit of making a “wish list” for the birthday and for Christmas, in order to be sure to make and receive only what we like, but above all to not collect spares.
In my 2016 list there was a book that I am very, very happy to have received: “Therapy” by Sebastian Fitzek.

I’m only asking for five minutes and then you can tell me to my face.’
‘Tell you what?’
‘Whether or not you’re interested in my case.’
‘I don’t have time for patients,’ he said weakly. ‘Please, just go.’
‘I will go, I promise, but I want you to hear my story. It’ll only take five minutes, and you won’t regret a single second.’[1]

I immediately felt attracted by the title, having always been interested in psycho-thrillers and having been in abstinence from the…

“Bonjour les &nfants”

I was attracted by the plot: a mix of psychological thriller and romantic romance, and I must say that, unlike the birthplace, the author did not fail my expectations!

<< A little girl had died in terrible circumstances. Without anyone hearing her, she had walked several flights of stairs, she opened doors, a window…. The omission of control was obvious. >>[1]

When I was a child, I was incredibly fascinated by France, I don’t know why, but I was almost obsessed with it, I often dreamed of going for a walk in the vineyards, to walk through the Champs Elise’s, to paint on the river, and to taste the fine French cheeses.

When I finally flew to Paris at 13, I have to say I was a bit disappointed, maybe the expectations were too high, or I was unlucky, because I met a lot of rude people, I found bad food and very cold and rainy weather despite it being late July.

In any case, with the cheese and wines excluded, the passion and charm…
