“Nolite te bastardes carborundorum” -ENG

“I used to think of my body as an instrument, of pleasure, or a means of transportation, or an implement for the accomplishment of my will . . . Now the flesh arranges itself differently. I’m a cloud, congealed around a central object, the shape of a pear, which is hard and more real than I am and glows red within its translucent wrapping.”[4]

“How many awards is this TV series winning? I see it as a candidate everywhere! “
“Awards from critics or the public?”
“That’s the shocking thing: both![1]
“Wow! We must start it then “
“Wait, it gets better”
“What?”
“It is taken from a book: The Handsmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood”
“The same Atwood as Alias Grace ????”
“Yup”
“Tomorrow I’ll buy it  !!!”

That’s how it went, no plot, setting, or other research. I immediately trusted the author I had met thanks to another wonderful novel from which they will soon draw (or maybe they have already drawn, I have to find out) a TV series: Alias Grace. A novel that kept me in suspense until the end and that I still remember as if I had read it yesterday even though at least ten years have passed!
I do not know why in all this time…

“Thirty-three theories and no certainty”

“The division between past, present and future has only the value of an obstinate illusion”

Through The Mirror

Accustomed to American, English and more rarely Italian TV series, I must say that the idea of a German product did not thrill me … especially given the previous ones such as “Derrik” or “A case for two”. But, it must have been the choice of the soundtrack[1]., the plot[2], the continuous comparisons with LOST, or simple curiosity, I gave in. I prepared frankfurters and sauerkraut * to get in the mood, I uncorked an EKU 28, and I spread out on the sofa bed with the first episode of DARK[3].

And then the second one, and then the third one and then the fourth one….

Only at 3 in the morning, when my eyes were asking for mercy, I managed to detach myself from this psychedelic drama of a thousand mysteries!

Time travel. Trivially I could say that the main theme is this…

“IT IS (NOT) LUPUS”

It lasted a moment, then I realized that a lot of things were actually different, starting with the fact that I haven’t been to high school in… well, a long time. To end with the fact that I don’t even talk to one of the two guests anymore … this is life, maybe it was just the love for Doctor House that kept us together …

Through The Mirror

Do you know the feeling of déjà-vu? I do, often.

One of the last episodes was about the period when sitting with my brother and two friends I was preparing to spend the Thursday afternoon pre-homework with Doctor House.

It was the first months of school so the teachers were still quite merciful, and the four of us could easily spend two hours of our afternoon in front of the tape recorder and without any spoilers from the evening before.

Good times when you didn’t find the whole episode on all social networks two minutes after the broadcast ends!

In any case, I was in my parents’ kitchen with my brother while my mother was baking an almond pie * and I really had the feeling that all that had already happened, and that the two friends would soon come to start the vision.

It lasted a moment, then I…

“The Chinese and the Crocodile”

Grab a steaming cup of hot chocolate, a good dose of whipped cream, the right soundtrack * and immerse yourself in this harrowing and extraordinary story with an unpredictable ending and noir atmosphere.

Winter. Roll neck, hot mugs, good dishes and comforters. Fireplace. The snow. Chat with friends in front of board games.

I always imagined that I would spend the winter like this in my personal house. I don’t know if I thought I was becoming a millionaire or just as a good screenwriter I let myself be carried away by fiction, because I live in my own home, winter is coming, but I not only don’t have a fireplace, nor rooms for everyone, but I will work about 12h at the day so I doubt I’ll want to prepare delicious banquets or play after dinner …

It would be nice to have a life Friends style where you live together, work occasionally, spend your free time together and despite this you also have time to have different love relationships and not; but the reality is a little closer to Grey’s Anatomy

“Is better if you don’t end up on the Red’s BLACKLIST”

The Blacklist follows a serial case, with a criminal to be thrown in jail every 40 minutes, but it is the horizontal development that really keeps the viewer glued to the screen to follow Reddington’s plans at the same time, which is far from clear; the double life of Elizabeth’s husband, Tom; Elizabeth’s own past, all full of mysteries.

Through The Mirror

Almost three years ago, I was in a famous book and DVD store on Via Nazionale in Rome, wandering among the shelves looking for something to give to my brother for Christmas, some DVDs with special Marvel inserts maybe, or another fantasy saga, when my eye falls on a dvd of a tv series with James Spader, one of our favorite actors. I read the plot: His name is Red Reddington and he is one of the most wanted criminals in the world. One day he turns himself over to the FBI and offers his precious “black list” of names to track down terrorists hiding in the United States. The only condition: he will speak only with Special Agent Elizabeth Keen, the agency’s new hire.

Why? What happened so extraordinary that made a fugitive return to the place where everyone wants him dead?

And I’m convinced. I’ll take it!

As…

“A Blanket, Churros, and New Words”

The protagonist of “Apex Hides the Hurt” is a terminology consultant. If someone needs the right name for his or her new product – whether it’s a car or an antidepressive, a snack or a spoon -, he’s the one.

Winter. High-necked sweaters, steaming mugs, hearty plates and duvets. Fireplace. The snow. Chat with friends in front of board games away from attics and cellars.

“All he felt now was envy. These people had expectations. Of the world, of the future, it didn’t matter–expectation was such an innovative concept to him that he couldn’t help but be a bit moved by what they were saying. Whatever that was.”
― Colson Whitehead, Apex Hides the Hurt

I always imagined that when I went to live on my own, I would spend the winter like that. I don’t know if I thought I’d become a millionaire all of a sudden to buy a chalet complete with a fireplace and rooms for each visitor, or just as a good screenwriter I let myself be carried away by fiction, because I live there alone, winter is coming, but not only I don’t have a fireplace…

Enjoy life in Wayward Pines”

Ps. Seasons are 2, not 3 as we thought

Through The Mirror

Winter, armed with fleece blankets and freshly brewed coffee, my friend Anna and I go to the computer in search of some new and exciting TV series. We chatted, we arranged the room, we also went out for the classic walk in the village, now we deserve to relax in the warm warmth of four walls.

We watch different TV series at the moment, so we have to rely on the news.

What kind? Good question!

“Don’t try to leave. Don’t talk about the past. Don’t talk about your previous life. Always answer the phone if it rings. Work hard, be happy. Enjoy life in Wayward Pines”

We read this header next to the photo of a mature Matt Dillon surrounded by dark and creepy characters. We look at each other. We nod. We are convinced.

And that’s how our adventure started with one of the most disturbing series on…

Do you ever get “called” by a book? He is there, on his shelf with many others, and when you pass it is as if it were whispering “take meeeeee, read meeeeee”.

I hope so or I begin to think I am hallucinating. Or maybe it’s just the post-book effect.

Anyway, three years ago I walked past a shelf and Wulf Dorn’s “The Psychiatrist” called me, seduced me into taking it. But then for one reason or another I kept it there, on my shelf to collect dust and time, without reading it. Until this winter, on a mostly rainy afternoon, while I was arranging…
